The Sensory Profile Clinical Assessment

A clear, compassionate look at how your senses shape your world.

The assessment is a structured, evidence-based process — but it never feels clinical. From the first conversation to the final results session, you will be guided every step of the way.

What is it?

A standardized tool with a deeply human purpose.

The Sensory Profile Clinical Assessment is a validated, standardized evaluation developed to measure how individuals process sensory information across eight sensory systems — including touch, sound, movement, taste, smell, and more.

Unlike a diagnosis, the assessment does not label you. It describes you — giving you a detailed, nuanced picture of your sensory thresholds, patterns, and preferences that can explain so much about how you move through daily life.

It is used by therapists, educators, and families worldwide, and it is one of the most comprehensive sensory tools available for clients from infancy through adulthood.

Eight sensory systems evaluated:

Touch (Tactile)
Movement (Vestibular)
Body position (Proprioception)
Sound (Auditory)
Sight (Visual)
Taste (Gustatory)
Smell (Olfactory)
Internal body (Interoception)

What to expect

A process designed to feel as good as the results.

A therapist and client in a warm, attentive session
01

Initial conversation

We begin with a warm, unhurried intake conversation. I want to understand what is bringing you here, what you are hoping to learn, and any context that will help me interpret your results meaningfully.

02

Completing the assessment

You (or a caregiver, for younger clients) complete the Sensory Profile questionnaire. It is straightforward and typically takes 20 to 30 minutes. There are no right or wrong answers — only honest ones.

03

Clinical scoring and analysis

I score and analyze your responses using the clinical framework, identifying patterns across all eight sensory systems and comparing them to established norms for your age group.

04

Results session

We meet to review your profile together. I walk you through what the results mean in plain language, connect them to your lived experience, and answer every question you have.

05

Written summary

You receive a written summary of your sensory profile — a document you can share with educators, other providers, or simply keep for your own reference and reflection.

What you will gain

Understanding that changes everything.

Clarity

Finally understand why certain environments, textures, sounds, or routines feel overwhelming — or why you crave more input than others around you.

Language

Put words to experiences you have always had but never been able to explain to yourself or the people in your life.

Strategies

Leave with practical, personalized insights for navigating daily life in a way that works with your sensory system, not against it.

Validation

Many clients describe the results session as the first time they have felt truly seen and understood. That matters deeply to us.
